Pay-as-you-go vs prepaid Internet

You've probably heard the term prepaid internet. But what's the difference between that and pay-as-you-go internet? Or are they the same thing?

The term "prepaid" can be translated as "paid in advance". This is a model in which the customer buys credit in advance. Usually: call minutes, SMS and data volume.

You can use this credit according to your individual needs. If your credit is completely used up, you can neither make calls nor surf the internet. You have to top it up again with e.g. CHF 10.00.

Our Pay-as-you-Go tariffs, on the other hand, are flat rates for fixed-network Internet. No matter how much you surf, the monthly costs are always the same. But you only pay if you actually use the internet.

I've just moved to Switzerland and was looking for an affordable internet provider. It's a horror what you have to pay at Swisscom. So, thanks to Google, I came across Inter XS. I've been a customer for a year now and have never had a line fault. It should be clear to everyone that faults are not usually caused by the provider, but it's still worth mentioning that I've always been able to rely on it. At the beginning of the contract I had a few questions for the support and they helped me very well. Many thanks so far and I will probably remain a customer. (Translated from German)

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

  • What is the ideal internet tariff for me?

This depends on your user behaviour and the number of people in your flat or house. If you are alone, 50 Mbit/s is normally sufficient.

If three or four people use the same Internet, we recommend an Internet speed of at least 100 Mbps.

Especially if the Internet is used by several people at the same time, sufficient Internet bandwidth is required.

  • Which InterXS tariffs are available in my location?

To find out, use the availability checker on our site. It accesses a central Swiss database and is completely up-to-date.

Based on the address you enter, we show you on the website the internet subscriptions available in your location. DSL or fibre optic.

  • Can I pause the Internet, for example, when I am travelling?

Yes, with our pay-as-you-go tariffs you can pause the internet at any time after the first two months.

Just send us a short email and within 24 hours your pay-as-you-go tariff will be paused. During this time, you will not incur any costs.

If you want us to reactivate the Internet, just let us know and within 24 hours your Internet line will be switched on again.

  • Is there a long contract commitment with your tariffs?

No. There is no minimum contract period. After the first two months, you can pause our pay-as-you-go tariffs at any time. Until you need it again.

  • Can I also get a Wi-Fi router from you?

Yes, of course. With all our tariffs, you will receive a high-quality WLAN router from us sent to your Swiss address by parcel post. It usually takes between 2-3 working days for the router to arrive at your home.

This is a loan device. If you have cancelled your tariff with us, you will have to send the router back to us.

  • Is it complicated to set up the internet at home?

The Internet line is established entirely by us remotely, via the telephone line in the case of DSL and via the fibre optic line in the case of fibre. No on-site service appointment is necessary.

After your online order, you will usually receive a WLAN router from us by post within 2-3 working days. Set up the router with the enclosed step-by-step instructions and your Internet is ready for use.

  • How can I pay my subscription?

We currently offer two payment methods: Paypal or bank transfer.

If you pay via Paypal, we will send you a monthly request for payment via Paypal. You will automatically receive a PDF invoice by email every month.

If you choose to pay by bank transfer, we will send you the monthly subscription fee. You can also set up a standing order, which makes it easier for you.
